Concrete Test Products

Approved by MMSA (Material and Methods Standards Association) for any ASTM, ANSI or ISO Standards. Used for multiple standards such as ISO 13007-2 Test Method for Adhesives, ASTM C1857/C1857M-19 Standard Test Method for Tensile Strength of Concrete Surfaces and Bond Strength or Tensile of Concrete Repair and Overlay Materials by direct Tension (Pull-off Method), ANSI A137.2 and many other Standard Test Methods.

Standard Concrete Test Substrates

TACM’s Test blocks are available in three standard finishes: Smooth (to represent typical concrete slabs), Light Texture to represent a texture between an acid etched slab and ground slab and Medium Texture to represent the texture of a lightly shot-blasted concrete slab.  They are currently available in two standard sizes, 16" x 16" x 1.5" and 4" x 4" x 1.5".

The standard concrete design mix for this product produces compressive strength of approximately 7,700psi and 400 tensile psi.  Test Blocks with other concrete strengths are available upon special request on a custom order basis (see Custom Products Section).

TACM will cut any of the above 16” x 16” x 1.5” test substrates into different sizes for various test applications. Some of the most popular custom sizes are nominal:
9" x 9" x 1.5", 8" x 8" 1.5",  3" x 12" x 1.5", 4" x 4" x 1.5"

In addition to the standard finished TACM's Concrete Test Blocks are available for purchase in a multitude of concrete surface profiles.  Some of these are chemically acid etched (and neutralized); mechanically ground; light, medium and heavy shot-blast; light, medium and heavy scarification, light, medium and heavy shot blast; light, medium, and heavy scarification, retarder etching in light medium and profiles; water abrasion in light medium and heavy profiles; and several sandblasted profiles.  These Test Blocks are mechanically or chemically processed by recommended surface prep industry guidelines, and are examples of how surface prep should look and feel in the construction field.

There is a minimum order requirement on all custom orders. Please contact TACM at 1-800-773-9363 or fill out a contact form on our About/Contact section.

ASTM E96/E96M-16 Permeable Concrete Test Substrate

This permeable concrete test substrate is used per E96 test method to measure vapor transmission through a 6.25" x 10.5" x 1" concrete block.  The purpose is to obtain, by means of simple apparatus, reliable values of water vapor transfer through permeable and semipermeable materials, expressed in suitable units.  A permeable value obtained under a certain set of test conditions may not indicate the value under a different set of conditions.  For this reason, the test conditions should be selected that most closely approach the conditions of use.

Some appropriate test applications for TACM's E96 concrete test block are concrete moisture control systems, construction bonding materials to concrete, concrete sealers, epoxies, polishing densifiers etc.

Refer to ASTM standard C16 E96/E96M under Subcommittee C16.33 for more information.

Robinson Test Slabs - ASTM C627-93

ASTM C627-93 (Reapproved 2007) is a Standard Test Method for evaluating ceramic floor tile installation systems.  The Robinson-Type Floor Tester is used with a concrete base for thin-bed tile installations.  TACM produces the concrete base per Section 6.12 of this standard.

16" x 16" x 1/2" Flexible Rubber Mat with 50 mm Holes

Used to test hydraulic setting floor smoothing and/or leveling compounds - determination of bond strength EN13408 & ASTM C1857/C1857M-19.

The mat is adhered to the top of the 16" test blocks after applying primer (primer required only if smoothing and/or leveling manufacturer recommends such).  The holes are filled with the smoothing and/or leveling compound mixture immediately after the mixing procedure.  Any excess material is removed with a metal float to obtain completely filled in holes.  Rubber mat is removed after cure of smoothing and/or leveling compound. 24 hrs. prior to bond test, metal plates are bonded to each test specimen.  Each specimen is tested using the tensile testing machine.
